Born as an idea in 2022, studioSHAPES stands as the pipeline between Chicago's underground talent and the next level of their career. The name "SHAPES" originally came from the geometric designs of musical gear and instruments, but has evolved to embody the symmetry that arises when artists get together to create in beautiful harmony.
Founded by 14-year industry veteran Renzell, studioSHAPES is more than just a place for artists to record music. We are an establishment where artists can truly foster their talent and grow with a passionate team of like-minded creatives. Beyond crafting music, SHAPES has also become a necessary third place—a safe space outside of home or work that serves as the cornerstone of community building.
With regularly scheduled events like the biweekly Winedown Wednesday, anyone is invited to come through, spin vinyl, kick back with a wine glass and engage in stimulating conversation with new and familiar faces alike, demystifying the exclusivity of closed-off studios that seek to only serve guests on a transactional basis.
Even the studioSHAPES logo is meant to symbolize how people unite--the triangle is emblematic of a triad working together as a team, the circle represents a community coming together to be whole, and the square symbolizes the four walls of the studio where the creative vision comes into fruition—because shapes are the fundamental building blocks of life.
